Along the Line:
McCloud Roundhouse and Diesel Shop

The McCloud River Railroad initially had a "roundhouse" located adjacent to the original sawmill on the south side of town. In 1905 the railroad built a machine/back shop adjacent to the new switching yard then being developed north of town adjacent to the new sawmill, and in 1907 the company built a ten stall roundhouse adjacent to the shop, later expanded to twelve stalls in 1912/1913.

In 1956 the railroad replaced the roundhouse and machine shop with a new diesel shop located north of the old steam facilities. The shop had three run-through stalls, plus a smaller fourth stall for mechanized track maintenance equipment.
