McCloud Rails : Passenger Operations: Excursion Photos

The "Oregon Caper"
Labor Day Weekend, 29 August-2 September 1969

The Pacific Railroad Society and Bay Area Electric Railroad Association joined forces to operate an excursion over the Labor Day weekend of 1969. The trip started out of Los Angeles on Friday evening, picked up Bay Area passengers in Oakland on Saturday morning, and then headed north into Oregon, eventually reaching Eugene before coming back south ot Klamath Falls where the passenger detrained for a bus tour of Crater Lake. SP delivered the train to the McCloud River Railroad in Mt. Shasta City on Sunday afternoon, which brought the train into McCloud. The passengers spent that night on the train in McCloud, and then the next morning the McCloud hauled the excursion to Bartle and back before returning the train back to the SP. The special then returned south, passing through Oakland Monday evening and finally terminated back in Los Angeles early Tuesday morning.
