Steam Locomotive #25:
Burney Trip 1965

The McCloud River Railroad turned in another busy year in 1965. Highlight of the year was another joint PLA-NorCal party trip, this time covering the entire line to Burney and back to McCloud. The railroad leased two more "Harriman" coaches from the Southern Pacific in 1965, but unlike the previous year they stayed on the road after the summer ended. The 1965 Burney trip featured the former Great Northern caboose #035, the two leased coaches, and both of the passenger flats. The railroad did offer a unique cab hop over the Scott Branch for a few excursionists instead of the bus trip to Burney Falls, which made this trip perhaps one of the only, if not the only, use of a steam locomotive over the length of that branch.
