Steam Locomotive #25:
Calliope

In 1967 Lloyd Burr, a steam enthusiast and mechanic, built a calliope and mounted it on a truck. He would park the truck next to the McCloud depot on operating days, and the calliope would serenade the trains as they departed from and returned to the depot. In 1968 the railroad cleared the fire hose reels and some other objects off the tender and mounted the calliope in their place. The railroad removed the instrument after that year. The calliope is seen here adjacent to the depot in 1967. Photo by and courtesy of Dennis Sullivan.

The calliope mounted on the tender of the #25 in 1968. It played music while the train rolled through the woods. Photo by and courtesy of Dennis Sullivan.
