Steam Locomotive #25:
Winter Trips 1998

The McCloud Railway Company regained title to the #25 from the Great Western Railroad Museum in January 1996 as settlement for unpaid car storage fees. The shops restored the the #25 to service in time for a series of special excursions over Labor Day weekend of 1997. Those excursions covered almost the entire length of the McCloud Railway owned trackage, including to Hambone, Burney, and Mt. Shasta City. These photos are of a couple trips the railroad operated in the following winter, including a trip to Mt. Shasta City and a Pacific Locomotive Association winter trip to Burney.

Near Hooper the #25 suffered a slight mechanical failure that brought things to a halt. The #37 had been plowing the line ahead of the excursion and came back to lend a hand.
