McCloud River Railroad : Passenger Operations: Excursion Photos

Steam Locomotive #25
11/12 October 2008

The #25 languished in the back of the McCloud shop for six years after its one and only double header with the #18. In 2007 a movie production company leased the #25, restored it to operating condition, and then extensively cosmetically altered it for potential use in upcoming Western movies. None of the projects panned out, and after a year the railroad terminated the agreement and announced plans to sell the locomotive. Martin Hansen, who had sponsored many photo trips over the railroad, organized one more for the weekend of 11-12 October that would pay for the reversal of the cosmetic work. The #25 operated up to Signal Butte on the morning of the 11th, only to discover the train brakes to be inoperative. After posing for some photos the train very carefully back down to McCloud. The problem could not be fixed, which limited operations of the remaining weekend to the McCloud yards and the relatively flat trackage east of McCloud.
