McCloud River Railroad: McCloud River Lumber Company Wrecks

Things do not always go as planned around any railroad operation. The McCloud on the whole had one of the cleaner safety records in the industry, but that did not mean that the companies did not have their share of wrecks and other mishaps.

All photos from the Jeff Moore collection.

McGiffert Loaders were very top heavy, and it did not take much to tip one over. Here is one seen from a hopefully seldom viewed angle.

Another view of a fallen McGiffert.

Yet another toppled McGiffert. This one looks to be a little more serious than the incident pictured above. Note that in all three pictures the wheels are in the down position, indicating that the machines may have been in transit at the time of each incident.

The remains of a log train after a wreck somewhere out along the line.
